MUMBAI, INDIA/ The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) said that it has successfully concluded cleaning operations in the most difficult and coveted area of Mumbai- Navy Nagar, INS Kunjali. The clean-up operation took place with active co-operation of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Indian Navy and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).

Navy Nagar, INS Kunjali is a 500 metre stretch of oil-soaked sand and rocks. There was used a globally acclaimed Oilzapper technology to treat the spill. The clean-up started at 6:00 AM in the morning and concluded at 11:00 AM.

More than 380 millions eggs with salmonella in the US, national measures required Imprimir E-Mail

ITHACA, USA/ Cornell University experts on farm animals and food safety comment on the recall of at least 380 million eggs in the past week due to concerns over salmonella contamination.

Martin Wiedmann is a doctor of veterinary medicine and a professor of food science in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He is an expert on food-borne diseases and pathogens, including salmonella and its transmission in food from farm animals to humans.

WASHINGTON, USA/ The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with 39 international scientists, published a report on the status of glaciers throughout all of Asia, including Russia, China, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Glaciers in this part are losing their ice.

This retreat impacts water supplies to millions of people, increases the likelihood of outburst floods that threaten life and property in nearby areas, and contributes to sea-level rise.

LONDON, UK/ Chances are that back in the 1980s, acid rain would have been high on everyone’s list of environmental concerns. But what exactly is acid rain and is it something we should still be concerned about?

A report published recently by the Acid Waters Monitoring Network (AWMN) shows that UK policies put into place some 20 years ago to reduce acidifying pollution have been successful and as a result waters in the UK are now beginning to recover.
